Since 1939, we have represented the electrical engineering students and made our experience better.

The Electrical Engineering Club was founded in 1939, but before this existed what we consider a symbolic predecessor to us: The Electrical Club.

Before the Electrical Engineering Club was founded in 1939, the “Electrical Club” was the organization that represented and united Electrical Engineering students at the University of Alberta. The Electrical Club was created in 1931, and only included 3rd and 4th year Electrical Engineering students. The first mention of the Electrical Club in the Gateway archives was in December of that year, when they hosted a talk about radio transmission and equipment. The Electrical Club had bi-weekly meetings and often hosted talks about subjects such as telephone communications systems, railroad electrification, and television. Before the Second World War, the Electrical Engineering program existed under the Department of Physics and had incredibly low enrolment (often less than ten people per year!). The Electrical Engineering Club was born in 1939 to serve the growing Electrical Engineering student body.

Since then, the Electrical Engineering Club has continued to grow and develop. Much of our history has been lost due to poor records and the word of mouth fading into time. If you have more information on the Electrical Club and our earlier years, please contact us so we can add it here for future students to learn about us!
